Match Report
Bloxham School Junior Colts A vs  Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood
On: Saturday, 11 Nov 2017
Venue: Away

The best performance of the season. After a long and delayed journey, we arrived after the scheduled kick off. We had ten minutes to warm up which wasn’t ideal but the team was on it from the start

Bloxham came out of the blocks very hard. H Stainton sent the kick off up and Bloxham chased with intent. Pressure was put on immediately. The forward carried phase after phase with the backs occasionally chucking it wide. This was rewarded after M Von Sydow crashed over from short distance for our first try. Stainton converted from a tight angle. Merchant Taylors had no idea what had hit them and Bloxham were forcing errors left, right and centre. After playing more phases and making clean breaks a couple of times, S Akrofi battled his way over from close range to score his first try of the season. Again, Stainton converted. After a succession of breaks from T Oliver and C Yates, the forwards continued to rumble up the pitch. This resulted in C Fellingham diving over to score our third right under the sticks. With just 15 minutes gone we were 21-0 up against a side who have lost just 3 games in two years. For the remainder of the half we were making progress but a few errors meant we couldn’t extend our lead even more. Despite this, Merchant Taylors were not making much progress and didn’t come anywhere near scoring in the first half.

The second half started and Bloxham claimed the kick off. We made some decent progress and the pressure was still well and truly on Merchant Taylors. After 10 minutes of the second half we decided to try some cross kicks in behind as the fullback was often isolated. This method paid off as C Yates brilliantly picked up a G King kick to only be tackled 5 metres out. After a few phases on their line, S Towell mauled with H Jones and went over for our fourth try. The conversion from H Stainton was just wide. For the next we were under a lot of pressure from the opposition. They had just rolled on five fresh subs and we were fatiguing. After stretching our defence, they managed to go over for their first but they missed the conversion. They then scored quickly after due to some errors and tiredness. This was converted. With 5 minutes to go we started to play in their half again. After winning a penalty in front of the posts we decided to go for goal. Stainton took his time and slotted it with what was the last play of the game.
