Match Report
Bloxham School Girls-U16A vs  Stowe School
On: Saturday, 05 Dec 2020
Venue: at Home

Having spent the last five weeks playing as part of a new franchise system, it was strange and good to be back as an U16 squad. Tuesday's practice was terrible, Wednesday was much improved and by Saturday the players were "pumped" for a hard fixture. Stowe crushed Bloxham 5-0 when they first played this term and then won 3-1 just before half term (though Bloxham lead 1-0 at half time). It was a cold afternoon and the girls took the majority of the first half to readjust to the demands of 11-a-side hockey. They worked very hard to win the ball back from Stowe, with a mixture of hard running, tight marking and a variety of tackling methods! After the break the team caused Stowe more problems and had opportunities to score. Having said that, most of the game was played in the Bloxham half, quite a lot in the Bloxham 22m and several minutes in the Bloxham D. The Bloxham defenders were kept busy all afternoon, but the Bloxham goalkeeper was perhaps busiest of all. To say "she played a blinder" would be under-selling her performance. Time after time she made not one save, but two or three in quick succession. With only two minutes remaining Stowe finally scored. The girls were happy with their performance, sad not to have been able to hold on and shattered from their exertions. The opportunity was taken to thank the U16's captain for all of her hard work during, what has undoubtedly been, a very difficult term.
