Bloxham 15, Bromsgrove 26 (National Schools Cup Round 2)

This was a disappointing missed opportunity for the home side, which led 10-9 at half-time but failed to assert itself after the interval. In a stop-start game which saw five yellow cards awarded, the fact was that Bromsgrove took advantage of the periods in which they had an extra man, and Bloxham did not. At half-time Bloxham led through a Dougie Oliver try, converted by Ben England, who also kicked a penalty, but Bromsgrove kept in touch through three penalties, and in the second half they controlled the game well, adding a further penalty and scoring two tries to stretch to a 26-10 lead. Bloxham contributed to their own downfall by failing to adjust when Plan A failed, only to play some good rugby in the last ten minutes, adding a well-taken individual try by Ben England. A whole-hearted Bloxham display, but one where an accumulation of small errors contributed to eventual defeat.
